Shelly Harms

Shelly Harms is a fifth and sixth grade teacher at The Ecclesial School at Northland. She is a seasoned educator with over 25 years of teaching experience, spanning preschool through the college level. Rooted in a legacy of ministry and education from her upbringing, Shelly developed an early and enduring passion for both teaching and discipleship. Her calling is to nurture students not only in academic excellence but also in personal character and spiritual depth- shaping hearts as well as minds.

She holds a Master’s Degree in Education, with additional graduate studies in English Education, and has studied Elementary Education, Early Childhood & Family Education, and Higher Education. Her professional journey includes a wide range of educational settings, and she brings a rich, interdisciplinary perspective to the classical model. Whether teaching foundational subjects to young learners or English as a Second Language to international students, Shelly approaches every lesson with intentionality and care.

Shelly’s teaching philosophy is deeply formed by her Christian faith and the belief that each student is made in the image of God, uniquely created with a purpose. Her classroom is a place where truth, goodness, and beauty are cultivated through meaningful relationships and thoughtful studies. She delights in seeing students flourish when given the right guidance, tools, and encouragement.

Outside the classroom, Shelly is active in her local church, where she continues to grow personally, and is surrounded by people who sharpen her both spiritually and professionally. She is a published author and enjoys writing about living authentically and faithfully. As a mother of adult children, she finds joy in spontaneous adventures. Whether discovering a cozy coffee shop, strolling through an art gallery, or reflecting by the ocean, she seeks and appreciates the beauty in the everyday.

In every sphere of life, Shelly’s mission remains constant: to point others to Christ and help them live intentionally, creatively, and confidently in the calling given to them by the greatest Author and Artist of all.
