Mary shields

Mary Shields is the Third Grade teacher at the Ecclesial School at St. Alban’s. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology and Microbiology from the University of Central Florida, and a Nursing Assistant Certification from South Florida Community College.  Working her way through college as Neurological Rehab Technician and a waitress, she then became employed as an environmental chemist and laboratory supervisor after graduation. Ultimately, a strong sense of wonder, a sincere desire to help others, and a splendid love of learning led her to begin teaching children at her church, as well as to homeschool her own two young children. Over the course of 13 years, she has been a tutor for elementary and high school level students, served for five years as the director of a high school level classical Christian education program, and continues to homeschool. Additionally, Mary has three years of experience as an online ESL teacher for children.

A firm believer that God has created each child to have unique gifts and talents, it is Mary's great desire to come alongside each student in order to encourage them in their learning, equip them to succeed, and ultimately point them to Christ. Depending on God and His grace, she hopes to model a sense of curiosity, enthusiasm, and awe in regard to learning about God's handiwork.

Mary grew up in Central Florida, and currently resides in Orlando with her husband and two children. She enjoys tending her garden, listening to music, and participating in live theater.
